My Mom

In honor of Mother’s Day this month, I want to share with you a little bit about my mom and the huge role she has played in my walk with the Lord.

I remember waking up one morning as a little girl and noticing from the dawn outside that it was still very early. I skipped into the living room area and saw my mom sitting on the floor, Bible in her lap, pen and notebook nearby.

I was so happy to see her this morning and be the only child awake at this time, it was just her and I. I took my excitement to her, and she gently told me that this was the time she was having with God. It wasn’t a time for us to play or talk right now.

She told me that I could have my time with God too. She explained that I could get my Bible and read scripture and talk to God. This interaction had a huge impact on me. I watched her sit before the Lord and learned that this was a sacred time.

Years later, as a pre-teen, I remember her giving me a blue prayer journal with flowers engraved on it. She spoke to me about telling God different things on my mind. I remember feeling so excited to use it and figure out what to write to Him. I thought it was special to have a journal dedicated to talking to God.

I remember hearing my mom worship the Lord early in the morning. My little sisters and I joined her on some of those mornings every now and then. She is the one who taught me about the intimacy of worship and the presence of God.

I’ve been with her in the car running errands and questioned why she was pulling over at a peculiar place only to realize it was to share the gospel with a group of people on the side of the road. In all of the different responses she’d receive, she never backed down from the truth, and she shared the truth in love.

I remember admiring her singing voice and trying to do the beautiful things she did with hers. I watched my mom sing on different stages and loved listening to the music she created as well. She is a big reason for the admiration of music in my life.

Hearing her recite a poem or tell us a story was an adventurous experience. The way she expressed each character and their inflections and gestures always made me laugh and see the tale so clearly.

It was amazing to see her own stories come to life as well when she published some of her own projects. She planted the seeds of my love for literature and creative arts of all kinds.

From holding conferences, to writing and recording music, to coaching others, she has willingly said yes to where God was leading her even if it was scary or uncertain.

She has spoken life into me when I was stuck and feeling defeated. She taught me how to pray and contend during spiritual warfare.

Throughout my life I have witnessed her confidence in me and her love for me in times when I didn’t feel it for myself.

These are only a few of the different ways she has impacted my life. I’m so blessed by her and I’m forever grateful for her.

Happy Belated Mother’s Day
